Motorists should expect areas of road works in several northeastern counties of the Kentucky Department of Highways District 9 this week.

The work areas will be in the following areas:

Bath County

• Ky. 1325 (East Fork Road): Tuesday and Wednesday crews will replace two culvert pipes under Ky. 1325 just off Ky. 36 east of Sharpsburg. Construction will begin at approximately 7:30 a.m. each day, after school bus traffic has passed, and Ky. 1325 will be closed to all traffic between intersections Ky. 36 and Ky. 1106 (Mount Pleasant Road), at kilometer 0-0.5 . The road should be reopened every afternoon in time for the return buses. Detour through Sharpsburg using Ky. 11 and either Ky. 1106 in Bethel or Ky. 1325 in Sherburne.

Boyd County

• Ashland Bridge Inspections: Starting today, contractors will inspect the structural components of the 12th Street (green) and 13th Street (blue) bridges that carry US 23 and US 60 traffic between the Kentucky and Ohio. The inspection will require daily lane closures – between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. – on each bridge and on US 23 (Greenup Avenue). The lanes will be closed on the 13th Street Bridge until Thursday. There will be lane closures on Greenup Avenue on Friday and lane closures on the 12th Street Bridge on Saturday September 25.

Carter County

• Carol Malone Boulevard (Ky. 7 / Ky. 1): An expansion project underway on Ky. 7-Ky. 1 between I-64 and US 60 in downtown Grayson moved all traffic in a three-lane configuration – one lane in each direction with a turning lane in the center – during construction, which is will continue until summer 2022. The speed limit has been reduced to 25 mph.

Greenup County

• US 23 Paving at South Shore: Motorists should expect one-lane two-way traffic on US 23 between South Shore (26 mile mark near King’s Addition) and the Downtown Bridge in Portsmouth (mile mark 29). One-lane traffic will remain in place day and night until the end of September. During construction, speed limits will be reduced for safety reasons.

• US 23 at Russell and Kenwood Drive (Ky. 750) at intersection US 23: US 23 southbound limited to one lane, and Ky. 750 closed for the Russell Viaduct replacement project.

• Ky. 503 Bridge Replacement: Motorists should exercise caution on Ky. 503 just south of Ky. 207 near Flatwoods where traffic has been moved to a detour road adjacent to the bridge.

Lewis County

• Ky. 3310 (Oak Ridge Road) in Lewis County: Teams will close parts of Ky. 3310 for two days next week. On Thursday, the road will be closed at Mile 1.4 between Toller Branch and Mud Lick Roads during working hours, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., for a pipe replacement. On Friday, it will be closed at Mile 4.4 (about half a mile from the KY 989 intersection) during working hours for a pipeline replacement.

Rowan County

• US 60 west of Morehead, Rowan and Bath County: Crews will install guardrails and signs along US 60 from Cherry Lane (Mile 17.4) in Bath County through Midland to the Rowan Line (Mile 0) at Farmers and east to Ky. 519 (Mile 7) near Morehead. Monitor single-lane traffic controlled by flaggers during daytime working hours between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

• US 60 east of Morehead, Rowan County: Crews install signs and complete upgrades along US 60 from Bramblewood Lane (Mile 10.8) to Rowan County limit. Carter (Mile 17). Reported traffic is possible during daytime working hours.

Roadwork schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions. Motorists are urged to heed all warning signs, slow down in work areas, and remain alert to workers and construction equipment while moving.
