GREENBRIER COUNTY, West Virginia (WOAY) – Two protesters were arrested Friday morning after allegedly chaining themselves to equipment at the Mountain Valley pipeline site.

The protest began early Friday morning. At approximately 5:42 a.m., the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department responded to a disturbance call in Dawson City.

The sheriff’s department said the two protesters tied themselves to construction equipment using chains and welded pipes. They were located below the surface in a hole.

The protesters were reportedly told to withdraw from the site and refused to do so. The Clintonville and Smoot Fire Departments responded to the situation to help extract the protesters.

The sheriff’s department says one protester voluntarily came out of the hole after his ties were removed, the other did not comply. The second protester was evacuated by firefighters using a basket.

The individuals are identified as Anna Grace Woolly, 19, from Viles, North Carolina, and Thomas George Tackett, 25, from Jackson, MO.

Both are accused of trespassing, obstructing an officer and conspiracy.

West Virginia State Police provided on-site assistance.

Corporal BJ McCormick and Deputy DL Vaught of the Greenbrier Sheriff’s Office made the arrest.
