College of Engineering Partners with Regional Leaders at 2022 UP.Summit Community Day

The MS in Operations Management program was invited to collaborate with the U of A Economic Development Division for the 2022 UP.Summit Community Day held on June 5th at Thaden Fieldhouse in Bentonville. This one-day event focused on the future of transportation and advanced air mobility while showcasing the latest technologies and in-flight demonstrations.

The UP.Summit was founded by UP.Partners, a mobility-focused multi-strategy investment firm that forges alliances with some of the world’s most influential transportation technology companies to help move cleaner, faster, safer and cheaper people and goods. cost – on land, in the air, at sea and in space. UP.Summit was founded in 2017 and is jointly organized by UP.Partners, Tom and Steuart Walton and Ross Perot Jr.

The event included demonstrations of electric and self-driving planes, electric and self-driving cars and trucks, remote control construction equipment, hydrogen-powered construction trucks, drones and many other prototypes. It was an opportunity to introduce the community to one of the newest programs on campus, the MSOM Advanced Air Mobility Autonomous Operations MicroCertificate.

Richard Ham, Associate Director of the Master of Science in Engineering Management and the Master of Science in Operations Management, described the significance of the event to the university’s mission.

“University management and faculty have been active in the research and education essential to achieving the type of innovation showcased at the event. Our students have found employment in some of the companies represented and have sought answers to many challenges in ongoing research,” Ham said. “Our new Advanced Air Mobility Micro-Certificate prepares students for both roles.”

The Industrial Engineering Department of the College of Engineering offers two professional graduate programs: the MS in Operations Management and the MS in Engineering Management. The Operations Management program began in 1974 and is designed for professionals from a wide range of backgrounds, including commercial and government operations. Students learn to create value for the production of goods and services while working with suppliers and customers around the world. The Engineering Management program began in 2017 and prepares engineers to lead and manage teams, projects, and organizations with technical workforces to achieve strategic goals. Programs also include graduate certificates in operations management, engineering management, project management, lean six sigma, and homeland security to broaden students’ understanding of the current skills needed by operations and engineering managers. All programs have the objective of “Learn it today. Use it tomorrow”.
