Bert De Jong
Bomag Americas announced the passing of Bert DeJong, business leader and industry veteran of more than 30 years.
DeJong is well known for being smart, honest and fair and an industry pioneer who has contributed to the success of rental customers and Bomag.
“Throughout his 32-year career with Bomag, Bert has been a consummate professional and team player, always ready to show dedication and effort to support his colleagues and customers. Today, Bomag has a strong presence in the rental market, primarily due to Bert’s leadership and valued commitments to this customer segment, which is a real success,” said Rob Mueckler, President of Bomag Americas, Inc.
“Most importantly, he was one of the most genuine and respectful colleagues I have had the privilege of working with, and he will be deeply missed by the Bomag family and our rental customers. The contributions and compassion of Bert for others will be long remembered by all of us, and his family will remain a part of the Bomag family.”
DeJong began his long career with Bomag in 1986, when he joined the Bomag Canada sales team in Mississauga, Ontario. Demonstrating a true passion for building the Bomag brand and integrity in working with customers, DeJong rose through the ranks to become General Manager of Bomag Canada.
Bomag’s acquisition of the Stow Manufacturing line of equipment in the mid-1990s enabled DeJong to lead the North American equipment rental business for the company. He worked with inside sales, dealers and manufacturers’ representatives to successfully develop the Bomag brand and increase sales of the wide range of light equipment in the United States and Canada.
One of his signature achievements, DeJong was instrumental in Bomag’s development of the articulated trench roller and its introduction to North America. The Bomag BMP 8500 quickly became a contractors favorite trench roller and enjoyed a dominant market share throughout North America.
“My dad was very pleased with the release of the hugely popular BMP 8500 trench roller, and he represented the Bomag brand with integrity and composure,” said Wayne DeJong, Rental Sales Manager for Bomag in Canada, who follows in his father’s footsteps. with the company.
“Even with his many accomplishments in sales, he was proudest of being a mentor and friend to many in the rental industry. He boosted many careers in the industry simply by helping when we asked him.”
Bert DeJong retired from Bomag at the end of 2018 and the company hosted a reception for him for his family, customers and team members at the 2019 Rental Show in Los Angeles, CA. He died on May 26, 2022 at the age of 68. .
